Graphite Flat

Privacy Policy.

16 Bit Bytes LLC

Effective date: October 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how 16 Bit Bytes LLC (“16 Bit Bytes,” “we,” or “us”) handles information in Graphite Flat, an Android launcher.

Information handled on your device

Graphite Flat reads installed-app information needed to display and organize your apps, such as package or component identifiers, app labels, and icons. Your launcher layout, categories, hidden-app choices, widget configuration, weather preferences, and cached weather data are stored on your device.

If you grant Calendar access, Graphite Flat can read calendar names and a bounded set of event titles and times to show calendar information. Calendar contents are not sent to weather providers and are excluded from Graphite Flat's export and device backup. If you enable Notification Access, the app uses active notification package identifiers and counts for its launcher display; it does not persist notification text or history. If you enable Accessibility access, Graphite Flat uses the service for its screen-lock and notification-shade features. You can revoke either permission in Android settings.

Location, city search, and weather

City search uses an offline copy of GeoNames cities500 data bundled with the app. Search terms are processed on your device and are not sent to an online geocoding service. GeoNames data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0; attribution: “GeoNames” (geonames.org), CC BY 4.0. The bundled data may be modified for app use.

If you choose current location while Graphite Flat is visible, Android provides an approximate foreground location fix; the app does not request background location. Android's Geocoder may send coordinates to a service operated by the device provider. If you select a city or location for weather, its coordinates are sent directly to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) and the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) to retrieve forecasts and alerts. These requests can also expose network and request metadata, including your IP address, to those providers.

MET Norway's API terms state that direct API requests log IP addresses and requested geographic coordinates. Its privacy information says IP addresses for unauthenticated weather-data services may be stored for up to 90 days. See MET Norway API Terms of Service and its privacy information. NWS provides weather data through its API, including location-based endpoints. The NWS privacy notice says security logs may be retained indefinitely; it does not specify API-specific deletion timing. See the NWS API documentation and NWS privacy statement.

Export, backup, and deletion

Graphite Flat's optional JSON export contains launcher preferences, layout and app organization, and the selected weather location. It excludes calendar contents and cannot restore Android widget state. You choose where to save or share an export; the destination provider may sync or retain it under its own terms. Import provides a preview and creates a local recovery copy before applying changes.

Graphite Flat's current build has no developer analytics, advertising, account, or billing SDK. The app stores its settings and cache locally until you clear the app's data or uninstall it, subject to Android's behavior and any export or backup you choose to create. Android device backups are disabled for Graphite Flat.

Your choices and third parties

Calendar, Notification Access, Accessibility, and current-location features are optional and can be controlled through Android settings. You can choose a city manually, clear app data, uninstall the app, or avoid creating an export. MET Norway, NWS, Android, device Geocoder providers, and any export destination handle information under their own practices.
